Second Working Holiday Visa

The Second Working Holiday Visa offers Backpackers in Australia aged from 18 to 30 the chance to extend their visa for another twelve months once they have completed three months in the first year in an occupation such as fruit picking, in Regional Australia.

You must satisfy a number of requirements for a Second Working Holiday Visa while on your first Working Holiday visa. You will have to provide evidence of this when applying for your second year visa. Once you get your Second Working Holiday visa you do not have to do further work, that is completely upto you. I am going to list all the requirements below.



Second Working Holiday Visa Eligibility

To be eligible for a second Working Holiday visa, you must meet a number of requirements. You may apply either while you still hold a first Working Holiday visa or at a later date.

You must:

  • have completed three months of specified work in regional Australia while on your first Working Holiday visa (there is no requirement to do further specified work on the second visa)
  • be aged between 18 and 30 years (inclusive) at the time of applying
  • be applying no more than 12 months before you intend to travel to Australia, if applying from outside Australia
  • will not be accompanied by dependent children at any time during your stay in Australia

    You must also:

    • be outside Australia when the visa is granted, if applying from outside Australia
    • be in Australia when the visa is granted, if applying from in Australia
    • hold a passport for a country or region participating with Australia in the Working Holiday program.

      Specified Work

    • does not need to be paid work
      Example: Work undertaken as a volunteer or through the Willing Workers on Organic Farms (WWOOF) scheme may qualify if the work falls within the specified work definition listed above.
    • does not need to be undertaken as a direct employee
      Example: Work undertaken as a contractor is eligible if it falls within the specified work definition listed above.
    • must be described in the list above

    Examples of eligible specified work:

    • picking fruits on a farm or orchard
    • feeding and herding cattle which are kept for commercial purposes
    • Regional Australia Postcode List

      The table below lists all postcodes classified as part of regional Australia for specified work.

      Note: Not all postcodes in the Hunter Valley fit within the definition of regional Australia.
