Fruit Picking Tasmania, the Apple Isle of Australia.

Fruit Picking Tasmania, is quite physically hard work, and often the weather is very warm during summer and cold during winter. Tasmania is an area which has a lot of fruit picking work for backpackers, and the backpacker accommodation in the area is setup for fruit pickers. Tasmania is not known as the Apple Isle for nothing, but it is also famous for Stone Fruits, Citrus, Berries and Cherries.

Picking Dates:

January to December - vegetables
February to May - apples
December to April - berry crops
December to January – stone fruit
December to January - cherries
All Year – mushrooms
All year – mixed vegetable production and processing

Fruit Picking Tasmania Accommodation:

Huon Valley Backpackers
The Huon Valley Backpackers, is located in the middle of Tasmanian's famous fruit growing district. They offer special weekly rates and transport to work. All accommodation is one set of bunks to a room. Camping is also available, and they also welcome Motorhomes and Campervans.

Picking work starts around November through to the end of May and you must have a work visa, a tax file number and Australian bank account.

Tasman Backpackers
They don't guarantee jobs but try very hard to find everyone harvest work. They deal directly with 30 different farms and job placement agencies so if there are harvest jobs in the region they will probably know about them.

Fruit Picking is weather dependent, and therefore may start at different times of the year depending upon the season.

Organic Farm weeding Commences in October
Vegetable harvesting including Potatoes, Zucchini, Broccoli and Lettuces generally starts in Nov or Dec
A few packing jobs will start mid Dec but most not until the first week of Jan.
Apple thinning commences early in December.
Cherry's start in December or January depending upon the weather.
Raspberry's start the day after Xmas.
Carrot, Onion and Broccoli packing jobs start at the beginning of Jan and continue until June or July.
Pears start in Feb, Apple picking in March and April.
Swedes commence in June and continue until Sep or Oct.
