fruit picking recruited?

by Anthony Brunetti
(St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada)

your site is great. all the information i need. this being my first time going to australia and wanting to do fruit picking i have one question:

do i just show up at the farm gate looking for work or is there a "labour pool" from which i get recruited/chosen?

oh and maybe a second question: do i necessarily need a working holiday visa or will a simple 90 day tourist visa do as i don't intend on applying for a 2nd year extension?

thanks a million!

Hi Tony, yes you need a working holiday visa. I do know people who have shown up on farmers doors and have got work, but you may have to knock on alot of farmers doors. It is best to stay at one of the working backpacker hostels listed on this site.

Hope that helps
